Check metadata, then inspect the photograph itself

Photo Privacy Lightbox locally inspects supported still JPEG and PNG files for EXIF GPS, common device and author tags, and selected XMP/IPTC location fields. It makes no automatic map request.

Open the local tool

Read coordinates carefully

An embedded position is not a verified home address. Missing location tags do not prove privacy. A recorded timestamp stays as recorded; the tool does not invent a time zone.

Make and inspect a new copy

  1. Choose the supported still image within the tool's 15 MB and 24-megapixel limits.
  2. If useful, create a raster PNG copy. The original EXIF, XMP and IPTC fields are not copied and the original file is unchanged.
  3. Check orientation, visible details and color before sharing. Re-encoding can change appearance and increase file size.

Look beyond the metadata table

Check street signs, house numbers, faces, reflections and recognizable landmarks. A filename or the destination site's added information can also disclose details. The new copy is checked again for the location fields this focused parser reads; it does not blur or redact visible content.

Keep the limit in view

Maker notes, proprietary formats and every possible field are outside the focused inspection. Unreadable files remain incomplete. Neither metadata inspection nor a raster copy certifies anonymity.
